In 2017, my mother and best friend was diagnosed at 57 years old with stage 4 gastric cancer. I became her caregiver overnight, going on a work sabbatical to help her focus on navigating medical care, clinical trials, chemo and radiation. We lost her 5 months later.
During this trying time, my self care groove was rocked, and I had to find new strategies to help me cope with stress and care for my body, mind, and soul. The structured plans that had previously worked for me were too overwhelming, and I needed more flexibility. I found a love for swimming, biking, and group runs, and I completed my first triathlon. I developed a regular writing habit to help me process my grief.
Life began to recalibrate… for a couple years. I eventually got back to full-time work, started my private practice, was planning a future with my partner, and was using my best self care strategies.
And then October 2019 happened.
In each stage of my life my self care plan had to flex.
This time, I found yoga, breathwork, tantric meditation, kickboxing, and lots of physical therapy and counseling to manage the chronic physical and emotional pain.
During each of these major life changes, I experienced levels of stress I had only ever heard about.
I still navigate deep grief, loss, and stress daily, but I have learned some incredibly important life lessons and tools along the way, which is what I want to share with YOU. In each of these phases of life, I was still me. I still had my same genetics, similar jobs, interests, friends. But in each phase, I had to adapt to a different plan to meet my physical, mental, and emotional needs. I was curious as to why this was the case.
Why did what I used to do to relieve stress no longer work?
Why did certain foods no longer feel good in my body?
Why did certain exercise now cause pain when before it made me feel invincible?
And why did what everyone else tell me I “should” be doing, not actually work for me?
Can you relate?
Was I broken or breaking?
And neither are you.
What you need is a plan that is perfectly tailored to you and your needs as your life changes.
I want to help you craft that plan.
With love and gratitude,
